In May 1970, sixty five ladies opened The Green House to use their talents and efforts to raise money for Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Appropriately, the original shop was a green frame house located on East Green Street in Pasadena.
When the building was sold ten years later, The Green House, 110 members strong, moved the shop to Haskett Court on California Boulevard. Here it continued until mid 1986, when the increasing cost of doing business forced a decision by the members whether to continue. In a close vote they decided to close the Shop, liquidate the inventory and donate the proceeds to the hospital. Fortunately, funds were retained to enable a possible reopening in the future.
In August 1987, a general Membership meeting was held to explore interest in beginning again. this led to the appointment of a small group to search for a location for a new shop. In September, the first organizational meeting of the "New Green House" led to the opening of the present shop in Arcade Lane on Colorado Boulevard.
The Green House enters its 2010-2011 year expecting to add to the nearly One Million dollar Endowment Fund for Surgical Research at Children's Hospital that the ladies have built since its inception.
